Over the weekend Julie and I took a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. It was a perfect day for a little bit of a road trip and simple few hour long getaway. We arrived at the museum a little early and it was such a nice day, we decided to walk to the lakefront for a while, given we had some time to burn. This also gave us the opportunity to take a few pictures and just relax for a while.
As we made our way into the museum I was amazed at just how much it had changed since I had been there last. They had done some extensive work a few years back and all I can say is that the end result is quite impressive.
Julie had wanted to check out the new CSI: The Experience, which was an interesting and fun learning experience and I feel worth your time if you ever get the chance to experience it. And I was so tied up with trying to solve the case we were presented with, that I never even thought to snap any pictures…sorry! And besides, this is something you should experience for yourself first hand.
The Canstruction exhibit is also at the museum for a limited time and you can view those photos here if you like. There were definitely some interesting designs made of, well cans of course! Additionally, Julie and I agreed that the baseball was our favorite.
We also took in an afternoon showing of Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs at the Omnimax Theater within the museum. This film was very well done, serving as a good history lesson and interesting documentary of the Ancient Egyptian society.
Journey to the royal tombs of Egypt and explore the history of ancient Egyptian society as told through the mummies of the past. The film follows explorers and scientists as they piece together the archaeological and genetic clues of Egyptian mummies—providing a window into the fascinating and mysterious world of the pharaohs.
Next stop, the U505 Submarine exhibit, which had been recently redone or at least with regard to the last time I had been to the museum. This was a very impressive update and something Julie and I had enjoyed walking through and learning a bit more about the history of the only captured German submarine in the United States. We did not venture into the submarine on the behind the scenes tour, but plan to on our next visit.
Overall this was a great trip and a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, as it had been too long since our last visit. Julie had been more recently than I, but it still had been a while for us both. Well I am now looking forward to our next visit which should not be too far off. So if you have not been in a while or have never been, there are definitely new things to be scene and new experiences to be enjoyed.

Enjoyed the pictures and the information, hope to go this summer to see
the CSI exhibit check out the other spots too. The lake front pictures reminded me just how close the museum is to the lake. Was that the first R2D2 mailbox you actually got to see?
You will enjoy the museum and seeing the CSI Exhibit, just make sure you get there before it ends as it is only there for a limited time. And yes this was the first R2-D2 mailbox I had scene in person, but I had scene plenty of photos of them…
