If you have not yet had the chance to watch any of the Planet Earth documentaries being presented on the Discovery Channel these past few weeks I highly recommend checking them out as they truly offer some amazing insight into our planet and the life that abounds here. You can also find out additional information through the Planet Earth section of the Discovery Channel site.

I thought this was worth a quick mention as I have been enjoying this series thus far and even plan on purchasing the HD DVD collection for the series when it is released later this month. There is also a DVD set available through the Discovery Channel Store or you can purchase the original BBC series version through Amazon for a bit less money. And I don’t see how one could really go wrong with purchasing either version.

So if you are looking for the ability to see the Earth as never before, look no further than the “Planet Earth” miniseries.

Enjoyed checking this out, I’ve watched some shows on the discovery channel but not this series. I am planning on watching for sure and also ordering the DVD. I saw some of the underwater shows from Blue Planet and they were beautiful.

I always enjoy Discovery Channel shows as there are a great many unique ones to be seen. The Planet Earth series is some of the very best programming I have seen in a while though and completely worth watching as well as owning on DVD. Definitely check this series out…

Nice mini-series. But always follow the money trail.

This show is sponsored by the biggest polluters of all…Big Energy (e.g. BP, Shell) and by the Military/Industrial Complex companies, like GE. I bet you will not see any polluted scenery in this mini-series.

While little Johhny is being mesmerized by crocodiles eating birds, he’s also being hypnotized into believing that Big Oil is actively seeking out and financing methods to lose money and proved cheap, clean fuel to the world….NOT!

    Subtle disinformation!

Steve, you have brought up some interesting view points with regards to who actually sponsors such documentary’s and series such as Planet Earth. I can see how big energy based companies that deal in natural resources would want to create a positive spin about themselves in relation to the environment. And the politics is something to consider, but the efforts that went into making this series despite the sponsorship was what I was calling out here as it is very well done. However, the insight you have shared is something worth taking into account as well.

    Nice response, thanks.

And I agree, the work IS fantastic. Last weeks, when they had the crocs around the waterhole in Kenya (?), showing the crocs speed in dragging down a waterbuffalo(?), the went to slow-mo and you could see the zebra’s mixed in with the heard…and the picture was almost freeze frame, almost 3D, and reminded me of some frieze from a Roman work in marble..it was nothing less than breath-taking!

But then I saw how these no-goodniks were co-opting this work of art…and it really burned me up!

    Regards,
    S.
