Is Sony Playing Games with PS3 Pricing?

Given I have not posted anything with regards to the PS3 I figured I would share this rather interesting article with everyone. Will the PS3 be available in the spring of 06′ here in the states or just Japan? I can see Sony launching the PS3 in Japan this coming spring and then doing a Holiday release here in the states. I guess time will tell, but as far as pricing goes this article offers up some interesting insight. I have a feeling that some of this could very well prove to be true.

I just came across this information and if this is true Sony may be in for a rude awakening! I am more inclined to believe that this just relates to what I posted above with Sony “playing games” with the price points for their benefit. I sure hope that is the case anyway! Hit the link to see the supposed price point for PS3 games…

I could see this happening as well, it sounds like a good market strategy, although the PS3 is an expensive piece of hardware, so Sony is going to lose a ton of money. If they want to compete with the 360 though, this may be the only way.
Sony’s best chance to compete with the X-box360 will probably be to release the system for the 2006 Holiday Season! I think they already know it will sell in Japan like crazy, so waiting for the Holidays in the U.S. should make for a good sales rally! Although releasing in the Spring when there is little happening with regards to the video game market may work just as well. If X-Box360 can launch in three countries at the same time, I think Sony could do this with the PS3 as well.

There is NO WAY games are going to sell for $80 a pop. I’m sure that’s just a rumor. Otherwise I’ll be very content playing my 360.
The reasoning behind the high cost of each game may be due to the fact that they will be using the Blu-Ray High Definition technology! If that is the case I will wait until the technology is more popular and prices go down!
I agree though, I just can’t see Sony releasing a system that will cost $500 or more, with games running between $70 - $80. It is just not marketable at that cost. We still have over a year to go before the PS3 hits the U.S., so more than likely the pricing rummors will change several more times between now and then…
